Resident Rights Statement: the Grievance Process

Creating a Resident Rights Statement > Resident Rights Statement: the Grievance Process

A resident rights statement should clearly communicate the recovery housing organization’s grievance policy. A preferred time to communicate the grievance policy, as well as the resident right statement, is at residency application, thus creating an environment where residents are empowered even before residency.

Residents must have access to the resident rights statement and the grievance process during residency too, allowing residents to know the appropriate means to express concerns.  Consequently, a recovery house should have their grievance process in their Policies and Procedures document, and on hand and easily accessible. This encourages residents to bring issues to you, in an appropriate manner and early – before small concerns turn into larger concerns.
