Resident Rights Statement: the Right to A Full Explanation Regarding the Restriction or Loss of Housing Privileges

Creating a Resident Rights Statement > Resident Rights Statement: the Right to A Full Explanation Regarding the Restriction or Loss of Housing Privileges

The resident has the right to a full explanation regarding the restriction or loss of housing privileges and the methods that to reinstate such privileges.

The social model of recovery is about interpersonal relationships. When a resident does not uphold the Code of Conduct, it does not necessarily mean the resident has a relapse or is an emergency.  It is not about controlling resident behavior but empowering them to achieve their recovery goals.

Consequently, a resident rights statement should communicate that the house’s Code of Conduct must be upheld, and that any situations where a resident does not follow the recovery house’s Code of Conduct are addressed in a timely manner and appropriately.  This may mean that the resident violating the Code of Conduct may loses certain housing privileges.  In addition to knowing why a loss of privileges occurred, the resident rights statement should include what the resident needs to do to have the privileges reinstated.
