Resident Rights Statement: The Right to a Full Explanation Regarding the Restriction or Loss of House Privileges
The resident has the right to a full explanation regarding the restriction or loss of house privileges and the methods to reinstate such privileges.
The social model of recovery is about interpersonal relationships. When a resident does not uphold the code of conduct, it does not necessarily mean the resident is having a relapse or an emergency. It is not about controlling a resident’s behavior but empowering them to achieve their recovery goals.
Consequently, a resident rights statement should communicate that the house’s code of conduct must be upheld, and that any situations where a resident does not follow the recovery house’s code of conduct will be addressed in a timely manner and appropriately. This may mean that the resident violating the code of conduct may lose certain housing privileges. In addition to knowing why a loss of privileges occurred, the resident rights statement should include what the resident needs to do to have the privileges reinstated.
