Recovery Support Activities

Recovery Housing Basics and Definitions > Recovery Support Activities

Recovery housing is not simply a type of housing that does not allow the use of illicit drugs or alcohol, or simply a place where residents live while they are getting clinical treatment or other services at an off-site location.  A quality recovery house offers specific recovery supports based on the Level of Support of the house – this specificity is a key component in a recovery plan.

Each resident should have a distinct recovery plan that identifies their individual goals and needs. A recovery home also must have a process in place for monitoring residents’ progress on their recovery plans while offering strategies to assist them.

Recovery homes must have defined strategies to help develop residents into recovery leaders so that residents can support one another in their recovery and have a voice in governing the home.
