Recovery housing is not defined by the individuals who live there, but the environment that is created within the home. Recovery housing is not simply a building where people with a substance use disorder live together.  There is a conscious effort to create an environment of recovery and where individuals support one another in their recovery.  There are several components that are critical for this environment including Illicit Drug and Alcohol-Free Living Environment, Support Activities, and Peer Support.
