Peer Support

Recovery housing is also an environment where residents support one another in their recovery and residents receive both formal and informal peer support services.

All residents in a recovery home identify as individuals in recovery from a substance use disorder, and must be engaged in a recovery plan where there are strategies to support residents in assisting each other in their recovery journeys.

Peer support may be more than SUD recovery support. Recovery homes may serve individuals who are in recovery who also have other common life experiences, such as individuals who also have experienced homelessness, or residents who also have a mental health lived experience as well as a substance use disorder.
