Recovery housing is not defined by the individuals who live there, but by the environment that is created within the home. Recovery housing is not simply a building where people with a substance use disorder live together. There is a conscious effort to create an environment of recovery and where individuals support one another in their recovery. There are several components that are critical for this environment, including an illicit-drug- and alcohol-free living environment, support activities and peer support.
Let’s take a deeper look into these components.
