Good Neighbor: NIMBY
Addressing Not in My Back Yard Issues
Many recovery homes experience NIMBYism. NIMBYism is when community members may not generally be opposed to recovery housing or people in recovery, but they still adamantly oppose having a recovery home in their neighborhood.
Each neighborhood is different, and there is no guaranteed strategy to avoid NIMBY concerns and issues. Indeed, you can do everything perfectly and still encounter neighbors that do not want the recovery home in their community, and sometimes these neighbors will attempt to either stop a recovery home from being established or attempt to shut down the home.
Such a situation may never happen to you, but it is still a good idea to be prepared.
