Resident Code of Conduct: Don’t Rewrite the Code of Conduct

Creating a Resident Code of Conduct for a Recovery House > Resident Code of Conduct: Don’t Rewrite the Code of Conduct

As you implement your Code of Conduct, it may be tempting to make changes or add a new element to the Code of Conduct in response to individual circumstances.  We all know of instances where we have seen rules and policies changed because one person has done something, and the organization responded by creating a new rule now affecting everyone.  Other strategies may be more appropriate.

But sometimes, it is applicable to create a new rule.  Carefully consider the change or addition before creating the new Code of Conduct rule. Be sure to consider the social model of recovery, the reaction of the recovery community within the house, and whether the new rule is really needed or is it just a response to a specific individual circumstance.
