Resident Code of Conduct: Treatment vs Recovery Home Language

Creating a Resident Code of Conduct for a Recovery House > Resident Code of Conduct: Treatment vs Recovery Home Language

It is important to know that recovery homes are not treatment centers.  Even if your recovery housing program is formally affiliated with a treatment program, the recovery house must be separate.

To reduce confusion for you, your residents, and your recovery house community, choose non-clinical language that is reflective of a family-like housing environment.

Such as:

  • “Support” instead of “treatment”
  • “Application” instead of “assessment”
  • “Move in” instead of “intake or admission”
  • “Move out” instead of “discharge”
  • “Resident or tenant” instead of “client or patient”
