Resident Code of Conduct: Asking to Resident to Leave

The only time residents should be asked to leave recovery housing is if there is a direct threat to the health or safety.

Residents should not be asked to leave recovery housing for things like not completing chores.  Instead, these minor non-observance Code of Conduct issues should be addressed by having a meeting with the resident, reviewing the resident’s understanding of the Code of Conduct, and learn if there are any barriers to the resident upholding the Code of Conduct.  Work with the resident on a plan to help them follow the Code of Conduct, write this plan down, and be sure to check in with the resident on the plan’s progress.  Something else may be going on with the resident, and he or she may need additional services or supports.

If there is a direct threat to the health or safety, be sure to refer to the resident agreement (or other pertinent documents) to follow proper procedures and consult an attorney for further advice if you have any questions or concerns.
