Resident Code of Conduct: Don’t Rewrite the Code of Conduct

Creating a Resident Code of Conduct for a Recovery House > Resident Code of Conduct: Don’t Rewrite the Code of Conduct

As you implement your code of conduct, it may be tempting to make changes or add a new element in response to individual circumstances. We all know of instances where one person has done something, and the organization responds by creating a new rule now affecting everyone. Other strategies may be more appropriate.

If a new rule must be created, carefully consider the change or addition before acting. Be sure to take into account the social model of recovery, the reaction of the recovery community within the house and whether the new rule is really needed or if it is just a response to an individual circumstance.
