Resident Code of Conduct: Treatment vs. Recovery Home Language
Please log in to your account in order to access this material.
It is important to know that recovery homes are not treatment centers. Even if your recovery housing program is formally affiliated with a treatment program, the recovery house must be separate.
To reduce confusion for you, your residents and your recovery house community, choose non-clinical language that is reflective of a family-like housing environment.
Such as:
- “Support” instead of “treatment”
- “Application” instead of “assessment”
- “Move in” instead of “intake or admission”
- “Move out” instead of “discharge”
- “Resident or tenant” instead of “client or patient”
