Resident Application and Move-In Evaluation: Draft Your Process

Resident Application and Move-In Evaluation for Recovery Housing > Resident Application and Move-In Evaluation: Draft Your Process

Once the form and rubric are completed, draft your step-by-step process. Include an area to note any responses that would automatically disqualify someone from housing.

To meet quality standards, the process for a new person applying for residency must include:

  • How you will collect their basic contact information
  • How you will confirm they have a substance use disorder, along with any other specific population
  • How you will explain the level of support offered in the home
  • How you will examine their willingness to participate in recovery planning
  • How you will examine their willingness to provide support to others
  • How you will examine their willingness and/or ability to maintain a drug- and alcohol-free living environment
  • How you will examine the amount of time a person has in sustained abstinence from illicit drugs or alcohol and determine if that timeframe is appropriate for the level of support offered in the recovery home
  • If you are able to offer time-limited assistance with rent and/or resident fees, what steps you will take to ensure that they will be able to pay those fees once the subsidy period is over
