Resident Application and Move-In Evaluation: Developing an Evaluation Process
Once you have established the criteria and factors you want to look for in a resident and how you will measure them, draft your evaluation process. This is the process you will use to determine if someone meets the appropriate criteria. Draft a script to help you explain your program, especially those who do not understand what recovery housing is. Be sure to include the level of support you will offer to prospective residents.
Also, create a form that is to be completed by the resident (or an individual helping the resident) to collect the following essential information:
- Resident’s name and contact information
- Resident’s history with substance use and recovery experience
- An acknowledgement that the resident understands your program and the level of support it offers
Go through each of your application and evaluation criteria and think of a question you could ask the applicant. Include these questions on your application and evaluation process forms so you can determine if the applicant meets the factors that will make the recovery home a safe and effective environment.
