Resident Application and Move-In Evaluation: Required Evaluation Criteria for Level I Recovery Homes
Required Evaluation Criteria for a Level I Recovery House
Level I recovery homes are considered peer run and peer monitored. They are not considered supervised or monitored. Therefore, residents who move in must be at a place in their recovery where they can not only monitor their own recovery, but also monitor the recovery of others and make serious decisions regarding the day-to-day management of the home.
All certified Level I homes must ensure that residents have at least six months of sustained abstinence from illicit drugs and alcohol prior to moving in.
In addition to the amount of sustained time abstinent from alcohol and illicit drugs, the person must also complete an assessment that demonstrates that they have recovery capital sufficient to support themselves and others in the recovery home. This can take a variety of forms including:
- Achieving a specific score on William White’s recovery capital scale
- Achieving specific recovery capital goals on a defined recovery plan at a previous recovery housing program
- Having letters of support or recommendation from another recovery program that highlights the individual’s recovery capital
