Required Evaluation Criteria for a Level II Recovery House

Level II recovery homes are considered monitored. They offer support, but they are not supervised.  Therefore, it is important that residents living in these settings are at a point in their recovery journey where they do not need to be supervised. 

Level II recovery homes must measure the amount of sustained abstinence that a person has prior to entering the recovery home. Residents who have less than 14 days of sustained abstinence may not move into a Level II recovery home and should be referred to a higher level of support.

Residents seeking a Level II level of support who have between 15-27 days of sustained abstinence from alcohol and illicit substances may be permitted to live in the recovery home. However, the recovery home must take additional steps to ensure that the person has completed a clinical program and has an appropriate written plan in place to ensure they have the support they need to be successful.

Residents with more than 27 days of sustained abstinence from alcohol and illicit drugs need to meet other criteria, as established by the recovery residence.
