Resident Application and Move-In Evaluation: Other Considerations

Resident Application and Move-In Evaluation for Recovery Housing > Resident Application and Move-In Evaluation: Other Considerations

Create an Inclusive Environment

Avoid asking individuals about their LGBTQIA+ status. Allow individuals to choose to live in a home that corresponds with their gender identity.

All residents should be informed during the application process that they are willing to live with others who are different than they are and respect these differences.  If this is included in your application process, you do not need to require that people provide you with this information when applying to move into the home.  Individuals may offer this information to you, and you can ask about how you can best support them and create a safe environment for them.

For more information on how to support LGBTQIA+ individuals see our associated guidance go HERE.

Supporting Documents

Consider what supporting documentation you will want to collect to verify the resident’s statements on the application, such as drug screening verification or letters of recommendation.
