Resident Rental Agreements: Changing the Terms of the Agreement

Resident Rental Agreements in Recovery Housing > Resident Rental Agreements: Changing the Terms of the Agreement

Including information about how terms can be changed is also an important part of the resident rental agreement. Whether you include entire copies of your policies in your agreement or you include them by reference, it is a good idea to tell people your process for making changes to the rental agreement.

In order to meet standards for quality, you must notify residents in advance of any changes, allowing time for them to ask questions and provide feedback. Remember, the recovery home is their home and under the social model of recovery, residents themselves are primarily responsible for living the code of conduct and enforcing house policies. Changing policies without resident notice does not allow for residents to engage in their environment this way.

It is especially important for residents to know, understand and prepare for fee changes.
