In addition to an appropriate communicable disease prevention policy and the right supplies to implement the policy, there are other things to consider doing to prevent the spread of disease in your recovery home. One is actively encouraging regular handwashing.
- Regular handwashing increases when individuals are reminded of its importance.
- To increase inclusivity, do not assume that all individuals recognize the importance of handwashing. Tell all residents when they move in about how important it is to keep hands clean, especially after using the restroom and when preparing food.
- Place friendly or decorative reminders at all sinks to remind residents to wash their hands.
- Encourage residents to remind one another to keep up with handwashing routines.
