Medication Policy: “Locked” Storage

Creating a Medication Policy for Recovery Housing > Medication Policy: "Locked" Storage

What is meant by “locked” storage?

Medication lock boxes are popular options for recovery homes.  These are boxes specifically designed to store medications.

However, you are not required to use specifically designed medication lock boxes.  You can use any locked storage that is secure and meets the standards for your level of support.

For example, some homes have lockers with padlocks where medication is stored, others have locked cabinets or locked drawers.  All of these are appropriate as long as they meet the standard for your level of support.
