House Meetings: Creating a Safe and Inclusive Environment

House Meetings in Recovery Housing > House Meetings: Creating a Safe and Inclusive Environment

A house meeting can only be productive if residents feel that they can share openly with one another and feel safe to do so.

As previously discussed, setting ground rules can create a safe space.

It is also important that you take other steps to address inclusivity.

  • Ensure that every person is welcomed and acknowledged.
  • Create an agenda where each person is allowed to share.
  • Be sure that inclusive language is used throughout the meeting.
  • Openly address any discriminatory language or microaggressions that occur during the meeting.
